When braking brakes make a grinding noise
Posted: Aug 28, 2011 (12 years ago)
First thing to check would be condition of brake pads .

Should brake pads been checked at mot or service

All depends on what service was carried out , may just have been levels etc . On the MOT if the pads can be seen they are checked but nothing is dismantled to check pads or any wheels removed in test .

If it just needs pads , not a big or expensive job . If pads worn out , may have scored brake disc which will need replacing .All depends on noise , hard to advise without hearing it , but you can get a noise if dirt / dust in brakes also which would mean stripping down and cleaning out .This is assuming noise is from front , if not may be rear shoes. You would usually be cheaper going to a good independant garage you can trust rather than a main dealer or one of the fast fit centres .It would be advisable to get it checked asap as it is brakes , you dont want to take any chances .Hope this helps you.
