2004 Ford KA whining in 1st and 2nd

Car: Ford KA
Year: 2004
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
HI, I have just bought a Ford KA, it's on an 04 plate and has 35000 on the clock, a really tidy and clean car and a good runner.
I notice that it is a little whiny when i take off in 1st gear and also in 2nd. Also, when stationary, if i hold the revs up to about 1500 and put the clutch down the whining goes away.
I think i realise this could be a gearbox bearing but am not sure if it is normal to get a little bit of this kind of noise with a Ford KA as i have never had one. I would appreciate a bit of advise on this matter please.

Thanks very much

First thing I would check would be gearbox oil level .
