Just purchased a lovely Ka but realised it has a bad smell which comes from the right side rear carpet which is soaking wet underneath as is the drivers side footwell which I found a pool of water under the carpet.
I soaked up most of the water with rolls of kitchen paper and have been using the heater to dry it out but how do I find out where the water is coming in ?

you need to spray the car with a hose and see where the water is coming in.

Check your scuttle drains are clear and also check if water coming in via pollen filter .Also few suggestions here ,

Thanks for your previous solutions. I eventually took car to garage hoping to have the wet footwell fixed. Grommets sealed £150 mostly labour. Still leaking returned car whole of front sealed (baulk head?) £150 mostly labour again. Leak worse now & driver side central locking not working!!

Had Eureka moment yesterday!
The car was completely dry, pulled back carpet and sound proofing in drivers footwell, soaked car again with hose for 30 mins still no sign of water coming in, then after a day of rain I spotted a tiny trickle of water coming from above and behind the brake pedal. Managed to get my hand up and under more sound proofing and found a metal pocket full of water.
The water must somehow be dripping into this pocket very slowly and only when full it must then overflow and gradually trickle down into the footwell.
I'm delighted at this find, but still need help solving the problem if anyone has some ideas.
