Oil leak from transaxle breather

2001 Ford KA 1.3 Endura W
Car: Ford KA

Still have persistent problem with transmission oil coming out of the small black cylindrical breather situated up behind the brake booster. A thin hose links the breather to the top of the transmission housing. A plastic bag taped to breather captured a fair bit of oil; half cupfull after 30km drive. 2 questions: (1) where is the transmission oil level measured from. Is it at the round plug with recessed hex head on front of transmission. (2) if not overfull, what would cause oil to be forced up and out of the breather.

the hex key on the front of the transmission is where you fill the box average oil fill from empty is 2 to 3 litres but refer to your manual for the correct amount from empty and sounds like one of your breathers is blocked as to why you are aways getting the over spill check all the breather pipes and clean if required

Ford makes no mention in the manual as to the transmission oil fill level other than it takes 2.8litres. Common practice is to fill until oil reaches the bottom of the fill/level plug hole. In frustration I purchased a Haynes workshop manual. The correct oil level is between 5 - 10mm below the bottom threads of the fill plug, measured with a cranked tool (allen key). The oil finally spewed itself out to this level, my problem is now solved; 1 drive shaft seal and a can of degreaser later, not to mention the cost of workshop repairs.
