how difficult is it to change a front shock

Straight forward , simple job , though you will need spring compressors . With the problems you have been asking about recently , would suggest buying Haynes workshop manual which would be a big help to you .

many thanks for your help and advice but i have been told that ford dont do a mannual for the 1.3 collection 53.
