2004 Ford KA shuddering hard to accelerate coolant disappearing

Car: Ford KA
Year: 2004
Variant: Collection 1.3
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
My daughter found it difficult to accelerate without the car shuddering and to reach any speed. Engine management light came on eventually. I checked the coolant level and found it extremely low, so I filled it up. The car then drove okay, but when driving again later in the day, the problem recurred and the coolant level was well below the minimum again. Garage found a small leak in the thermostat, and replaced spark plugs, but problem has recurred. Any ideas, please?

If you get a pressure test on cooling system this will show any external leaks .Was the thermostat tested ? Was the leak from thermostat housing ? If still overheating and no leaks , you will need to get a sniff test ( block test ) as it could have damaged head gasket , running car whilst overheated .
