Cooling fan seems to always be on

2003 Ford KA 1.3i(70)
Car: Ford KA
Year: 2003
Variant: 1.3i(70)
Categories: Engine & Drivetrain
The cooling fan seems to be on nearly all the time. It can come on after 1 mile from a cold start.
Would this make the car use more petrol too?
Problem added: Mar 8, 2010 (14 years ago)
Yes . Check coolant level and see if there is any sign of overheating . If not could be faulty sensor . If fan running when not needed ,engine won't be reaching operating temp . hence less mpg .

The coolant level is at max and has been so for the last year, never had to be topped up.
Can you be more specific about the sensor because i would rather change it myself if it is possible.
thanks
