Ford KA tailgate

When i start the car a warning light comes on saying the tailgate is not fully closed but when i check, it is fully closed, then when i come to lock the car with the remote it does not work and have to do it manually and again to open, the remote does open the tailgate, any ideas? many thanks.

Could be faulty switch / lock assembly but worth while pulling boot trim and checking for water ingress at lock and wiring . Also the wiring at top where it enters into tailgate ( in rubber sheath ) is often liable to damage , breakage causing faults .

Yes thank you for that, but what i told you i got wrong a bit, the remote does unlock the doors. many thanks.
