2000 Ford KA over revving

when i come to dipping the clutch to slow down or stop the engine is still revving loudly. Been told by a friend the throttle cable may be sticking and the cable could be frayed. Please help

disconnect cable from engine see if still over reving this will elim cable

i had same problem with my fiesta zetec after many mecanics trying to sought it out eventually went to fords it turned out to be the power steering pressure switch,the wire had broke
