If the cooling system is still pressurising after checking / replacing the thermostat , probably head gasket gone .You can verify with a block test on way or the other ..

since replacing the thermo &housing with switch complete unit for £15 ,ebay seller.
i can not get my temp light to come on or over heat, i am looking at the compression & have bought a gauge again off ebay, for £12 to check if the head is damaged .
because this car will not go through a mot .because of the emissions !.
