occasionally when changing from 1st to 2nd gear car jumps and feels like it is going to stall but then picks up

Check plugs , plug leads and replace if needed .Sounds like intermittently breaking down under load .If not that , check coil pack .

any guidelines on charges for local garage to check plugs coil pack etc
