1999 Ford KA car won't go into 5th gear

Hi all!
Have no clue about cars, my ford ka (year '99)won't go into 5th gear. Makes a loud crunching noise and pops back out of gear. Just wondering if anyone knows what this might be or if its expensive?

Check for worn linkage first of all.

First the gear change linkage should be checked to make sure you are getting a positive engagement into 5 the ,And that it,s not a tight gear change issue,If all is ok on the gear change then possible synchro mesh unit fault inside gear box.Best to get a mechanic to check this if you are not sure ;-)
