2004 Ford KA mileage reader

Hi all,yesterday I started my car and happened to look at the mileage reader.It should of read 39.959,but somehow has lost the 3?So its now reading 9,959?How can it just lose a digit?How can I get it back?I rang the ford dealership and they have quoted me just over £500 to fix this?I was about to sell my car so I really dont want to splash this much cash?Any easy alternatives?Thanks in advance x

You could try e bay there cheaper on there,you could always just note the mileage difference and as long as you inform the new owner .
