Fuel light on red just filled up tank??

Hey, just purchased a ford ka, 2003 reg, just as a run around. Filled up tank and after 1 mile red light on fuel indicator comes on?? Please help as I don't know anything about cars and hope I haven't been ripped off :(

probably just the float on the fuel level sender stuck so might not be too much to worry about but get it checkeD out at a garage also make sure its not pumping fuel out of any pipes or hoses etc
