Fitted new battery engine started then stopped immidiately turns over but will not fire up smell of petrol.

Couple of suggestions from other owners with same probs.
Danny Ryall Ford Galaxy 2300 1998
went to start the car in the morning the battery was flat. tried to jump start but still no luck. i have now changed the battery and it still wont start however i get two audible beeps after trying to start. is it an immobilser problem.

the immobiliser has a small red light on the drivers door panel if this lghts comes on for about 3 seconds and goes off then its normally ok if however it flashes constantly it will do this for one minute then stop and flash a 2 digit fault code ie 3 flashes then 1 flash is code 31 then it will repeat 3and 1, 3 and 1 etc .if the immobilser is ok does yor car actually turn over but not fire

after charging flat battery engine immobiliser active is there anything i can do before ford garage.

after submitting the above problem,and most people saying take it to ford i have found by disconnecting the battery for 1 hour and then reconnecting the problem has gone,all i had to do was recode sat nav.

disconnect battery then re-connect RED first then
BLACK. lock all doors and unlock and restart engine.
follow above in that order and it should start.
the engine management system resets after 25 miles.
refer to ford hand book on starting engine after alarm activation,procedures vary from model and year.
