When I accelerate from standstill the engine gets to about 1500rpm then reverts back to idle, pressing the accelerator pedal hard overcomes the problem. The problem is worse if I accelerate gently. If I accelerate hard it is usually fine, but I run the risk of running into the back of the car in front.
There are NO warning lights on the dash. (EML etc)

Possible fault with the throttle pedal sensor.
Only test is with a 'scope or replacement.
