hi mate
hope you haven't bought a hornets nest of problems.armed with your vague description, i will try & help. the brass looking thingame, sounds very much to me like a temp sender unit, hhich should be screwed into the cyl head in very close proximity to the thermostat housing or actually into the housing itself. ( is the temp gauge working ? ) as for the other part, floating around, description too vague i'm afraid mate. just wait & see if any other members can throw any light on it.back to my first annaylisis, if it is temp sender & gauge not working, be very aware of overheating problems. if it does start to overheat badly whilst driving, the first signs you get are the engine starts pinking ( sounds like lots of rattling tin cans when you try to accelerate, accompanied with significant loss of power )if this starts happening, pull over safely & asap as if you continue you risk siezing the engine,in one word EXPENSIVE.let me know how you get on & best of luck. regards dj dave.
