hi i just noticed my car is not ticking over very well it drives ok but when i stop and leave my car running its like if its going to cut out

Could try cleaning / replacing the idle control valve .

do you no think if it was my idle control valve my engine light would come on my dash board

I would suggest idle control valve also, and it does not necassarily have to throw up a fault code, also check all engine breathers for split hoses. The idle valve gums up so a good clean with carb cleaner usually works.
