Smokey Engine

1997 Ford Fiesta 1.4
Car: Ford Fiesta
Year: 1997
Variant: 1.4
Categories: Engine & Drivetrain
Occassionally the engine on my fiesta smokes. The engine is not over-heating, and the oil level doesn't appear to be depleating faster than usual. It's not on every occassion, and the smoke is slight - you only notice it when you're stopped, or going very slow. The smoke comes up from around the front wheel arches, adn the edges of the bonnet. Any ideas?

sounds like an oil leak to me,it could be dripping on you hot engine and just burning off, check for leaks, check oil fillter is tight,is your oil fillter old,?that can cause back pressure, check around the exhaust manifold, take off your oil cap, with engine running,to see if fumes are bad, check for breather pipes blocked or split,is you air fillter clean,? good luck

with you saying that the smoke comes from around the front wheel arch area are you sure its not the brake pads smoking as there are alot off aftermarket pads and genuine pads that do cause alot of smoke if not run in properly or you could even have a sticking caliper which would hold the pads against the disc and that would cause smoke as the pads are not returning to allow the wheel to run free
