2013 Ford Fiesta knocking sound like a twang on near side wheel

I drove out my driveway and heard a twanging,knocking sound from the near side wheel as I turned the steering wheel. On straightening up it was ok but when I turned the steering wheel again same noise sounded really loud. Immediately drove back in. I was advised it could a coil spring but this was not from a mechanic. Any help out there.

Checking coil springs first is good advice before getting too involved with other possible causes .
