Starter is controlled by the PCM,
or power control module,
that's what Ford call the computer.
so the simplest test you can do is bump start the car,
if it runs great the PCM is working,
if not then it or the wiring is suspect,
The main starter fuse is fuse 51 in the battery junction box so check that to.
But pretty much everything is powered by the Central junction box,
there's a lot of fuses in there.

Ok thank you, after work i will try that. Can i ask could it be anything else? Im thinking fuse because im hoping its nothing too serious

With the light blowing , could be a sign of a overcharging alternator which would " cook " and ruin battery . I would get battery checked first and alternator output tested also .The lights and radio working take little power compared to what is needed to turn engine .

Just had fuses and battery check all seems ok 12v running to battery and power going to and from the fuse for starter. Was told that maybe with the light blowing i could have damaged the ecu or the transponder in the key. I will just have to drop it into a garage for a full check over of everything..thank you for the replies and help

A reading of 12v on a battery is low and will probably drop dramatically if load tested .

Its low? I was told that it was suficent and wouldnt be the problem at all,i have an appointment with a competent trusted mechanic today at 6 o clock i will find out then anf hopefully the problem can.be solved easily .Thanks again

You state "the light blew"
and that's usually from a short circuit,
the glass envelope will be blackened.
And todays cars just do not like that kind of fault.
So I;m back to my original suggestion.
try and bump/tow start it.
It is the quickest way to establish if the engine ECU will run the motor.

I am on the way from work now and we are going to try and jump start it/push start im hoping that the engine will kick up and run so i can be sure its not a major problem with the ecu,i have seen a couple of similar problems today where it has been a different fuse that was blown, thus causeing a problem on the circuit itself,i will keep up to date on this when i am home. I really appreciate the help thank you

Tried to tow start, jump it no joy..they are thinking i could of shorted an anti theft fuse maybe, between the ignition and main fuse board, has anyone ever heard of/came across this before? Only light that shows up on the dash is the oil light but thats not the problem as it is full of oil and engine is fine. Lools like i need to get an autolectrician to come have a look as at this stage we are convinced there is a short somewhere that has disabled the ignition.

I diont think you say what model of Fiesta / engine but this for a Zetec and fuse no 12 might apply .

Now we know it wont start with a tow,
that most likely means none of the engine electrics are powered up,
not the 12v coils/injectors or the 5 v reference.
And as there are more than one fuse box on that car I'm thinking your right to think it's autospark time.
The one thing I'd do if you haven't already is remove the new bulb if fitted.

I have that very link very helpfull it has shed a bit of.light on the situation especially knowing a light should be on the dash if the ecu could be at fault

I have taken the bulb out and i will be up to halfods as soon as i can because i was advised that this was the correct bulb for my car,im pining my hopes,at this stage on a fuse that is between the main fuse circuit and the starter motor, consideringi have power and my engine seems to be after a light inspection ok,what a disater all over a little bulb, lesson learned for me tomorrow will be d-day i will make the call to the sparkie and see if he can find the short or blown fuse, what i did find in that link wittinghame is that it could possibly be the imobiliser fuse i have blown, which i think was overlooked earlier

Good luck,
But for future reference it'd make this process a lot easier if you and everybody else would provide
MAKE,
MODEL,
ENGINE SIZE,
AND FUEL TYPE in original posts.
Fords wiring diagrams are good but I need this to trace what circuit/fuse/earth paths.
You want accuracy,
I need ALL INFORMATION.
