1997 Fiat Punto engine jerks and shudders when driving

When I start the engine there is a weird noise, when I go into 1st gear there is some shuddering in the engine. When driving in 2nd and 3rd the car jerks on acceleration. After the engine has warmed up the shuddering and jerking calms down but still does so slightly when accelerating in 3rd. Why is this?

Sounds like engine misfire , many causes .Could be something simple like plugs ,leads etc . As for noise , impossible to diagnose without more info / hearing it .

I have recently had plugs and leads changed and the noise stops after shuddering and jerking calms down.
