2002 Fiat Punto lossing power on high revs only

When driving the car at a normal speed everything seems to be ok , But when you try and to take every gear to the top of the revs just before you would change gear it seems to stall and loss all power and the engine managment light comes on , But when you go up to the next gear the light goes out and the engine runs normal again until you go near the top of the rev range on the next gear.
