2008 Fiat Punto selects own gear on starting up

WHEN I START UP IN NEUTRAL THE CAR GOES INTO 2ND ON ITS OWN, THEN REFS UP TO FULL CAPACITY SHOTS FORWARD ABOUT 2FT THEN STALLS. THIS HAS HAPPENED 6 TIMES IN THE LAST 6 MONTHS GARAGE CAN FIND NO FAULT NOR R.A.C. BREAKDOWN.
