2004 Fiat Punto knocking noise

There is a loud knocking noise from underneath the car when changing through the gears. It appears to be caused by something rotating. This started of as a noise from the engine, at speeed, caused by something rotating. That noise gradually got louder, over time. The same noise is still there at speed but this new noise started recently.

I have just had the problem diagnosed. It is the gearbox!
