2003 Fiat Punto car starts but cuts off once i engage drive

Recently changed pistons,rings a nd head gasket on my fiat punto 1242cc,16 valve.The car starts fine and revs well in neutral but switches off the time I engange drive.Its an automatic.Also the idling is very poor.Please help me with any idess

Check the timing has been set correctly .
