2009 Fiat Punto fuel smell

Recently, i have noticed a waft of petrol through the air vents when i turn the ignition. It doesn't seem to last more than a few seconds. Anyone know what might cause this?

Hi
Try opening the bonet to see if you can smell anything around the area of the engine (especialy if the Punto is a carburettor model)
Look to see if there are any signs of fuel leaking under the engine also.The air that comes into the car comes through the air intake on the bulkhead so any residue would be picked up and dragged in.

I have a string smell of petrol in my car to the point it's giving me a headache and I have to drive with the window open
