Remote key doesn't work

2006 Fiat Punto grande

hi there,
i have done one of the stupidest thing, i left my car key in my jeans and wife put that into laundry, now i got washed out remote fob of my punto which is bit shiny now but doesn't work to open the car door and boot.i have replaced the battery and it worked only once and then stopped working.I cleaned ECB using electrical contact cleaner. i can still lock my car using the key. i wonder if i need to recode or reprogramm my key will to make it start working just like before or i have to order a new key remote, which would cost me around £300 from dealer.
i appreciate your advice on this.

Hi, might not be of any use, but my wife dropped her keys into a cup of tea once, so i opened the fob, took the battery out and left the whole thing on the radiators in the house for a couple of days to dry out and its worked ever since !!!!!
Hope you get it sorted.
