Overheating, no hot air, new rad 3 months ago!!!! HELP!

1996 Citroen ZX
Car: Citroen ZX
Year: 1996
Categories: Engine & Drivetrain
my ex husband, while we were still married, used my car and hit a badger, (initially he told me it was a hedgehog!) a new rad was fitted. car was fine. i kicked him out, met someone better, 1 year later, rad failing, car overheating so got new one and had it fitted by the same bloke.
now, 3 months later, today, and for the last few days, the car has no heat and is overheating right up to the red.
this car is 1996, but when i bought it a year ago for £200 in excellent condition, it had only done 16,000 miles. now its done 29,000, which is still miniscule in a car that age!
now im wondering what the problem is.
is it the mechanics fault for not fixing the rads in properly (this guy is a bit dodgy at best), or is it something else. i was thinking maybe the HG needs replacing, and im not looking forward to forking out for that one!!! PLEASE HELP ME GUYS! :)

If the the water pump is not leaking and all the water pipes are ok, get the radiator tested for leaks, it'll save you a lot of hassle, if radiator proves to be ok then it could point to the head gasket.

so i took the car to the garage and the bloke said the hose wasnt sealed properly, a cable was wrong and the cap was broken on the rad.
all this has been fixed, but on the drive home it overheated a little bit, like up to 70, is this normal for a 4 mile journey?!!!!!
