Red battery light started showing on the dash board on the way home this evening. I thought that it maybe just the battery needed replacing/ recharging. Upon further investigation with the power steering getting heavier and the clutch pedal.I am beginning to think that there is more to this.
As a relative novice, I looked under the bonnet and found 3 parallel wheels within the left of the engine- with no obviously connecting belt...!
May the source of my problem be such a missing belt, rather than the battery? An alternator belt as such. Is this easy to replace and what would be a break down of the costs for this as a guide?

yes this sounds like the belt has broken not an exspensive job you just need to no which way the belt travells around the pulleys if you are in the aa or similar ring them

check to make sure the belt tensioner /idle rollers are ok as well as these could be the cause of the belt failing
