2006 Citroen Xsara Picasso intermitent stalling

Car: Citroen Xsara Picasso
Year: 2006
Variant: petrol 1.6i
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Xzarra Picasso petrol 1.6i 2006.
Car drives great then the problem begins: starts to cut out when you come up to a junction, eratic idling, a smell of petrol when you start it up, and it keeps cutting out.
It will start every time but when i get the chance to take it to the mechanic, guess what? 'the problem disappears' and ive wasted his time again (no fault codes show up)Help!!!

normally the idle speed control valve causes problems, i had the same problem on my partners picasso, cleaned out the throttle housing with carb cleaner and changed the idle speed control valve.

My 2002 model idles fine (with only an occasional hiccup), but when I accelerate (specially through an intersection or traffic light) it wants to "die" and I can't get going unless I rev the engine and slip the clutch to keep the revs up. It sometimes gets dangerous when there are other vehicles behind me who want to get going or coming at me when I move into an intersection. I've tried fuel cleaners and changing the settings on the spark plugs, but nothing seems to help.
