Auto handbrake

Handbrake says not working but can manually get it on by pressing accelerator and parking switch for 5 seconds then turning ignition off but with accelerator and pressing switch for another 5 seconds

Never heard of that solution , but it could be the motor , h/brake cables , pads worn , or multiple faults . Who knows . needs checking out step by step
