Shuddering and Stalling at low rpm in automatic mode
2008 Citroen C4 2.0 HDi Grand Picasso

At low rpm in 1st, 2nd and reverse gears the car will shudder and eventually stall when set to automatic, if driven in manual it appears to drive fine in all situations and gears.

every so often the dashboard will display a dpf fault which relates to the erg valve beig stuck open. Before I replace the valve and most likely the egr cooler too I just wanted some advice on other components that sound like they could be a hidden culprit.

Once you do as you say , you could change fuel filter also before getting TOO deep into other work which could be an additional unneeded expense .

I should have stated originally that the car had a mild intermittent shudder in 1st gear and reverse from purchase over two years ago, but over the last few months the severity and stalling has started increasing.

Not sure on that year and box , some were " sealed for life " take that with a pinch of salt .But changing the fluid , bit complicated procedure , often fixed similar faults
