I was driving in normal conditions on a fairly clear motorway when my car seemed to kind of lock, there was a bang and rapid deceleration which resulted in the car behind smashing into my rear. The police seized my car for examination but released it 2 weeks later with the single comment "There were no defects". I am now subject to an ongoing police investigation but from my point of view, the car just locked.
I would just add that when I first had the car (with only about 4,000 on the clock), I had to have the entire wiring loom replaced.
Any thoughts, please?

I have spent a lifetime in the motor trade and never heard of that occurring . Having had friends in a major Police garage I can assure you it would have been thoroughly examined prior to conclusions issued ,
