dose not select gear and the dash shows two dashes and says pause ? Also the gear engagement position sensor how do they work and do you have the sensors for the same car or are they numbered for certain gears.

It could be as simple as a battery fault .The two lines normally mean there is a problem with the gear position sensor.Check also your hydraulic fluid level you may have a leak
