Engine temperature warning light on

After driven the engine fault light comes on and the fan runs longer after stopping

Scan it for fault codes and see what is triggering the light. . otherwise only guessing Possible low coolant level , faulty engine coolant temp sensor . sticking thermostat , partially blocked radiator , cyl head gasket , to name a few
