Using a lot of oil

2014 Citroen C3 1.0 vtr pure tech
Car: Citroen C3

Variant: 1.0 vtr pure tech

Hi, my daughter has a Citroen C3 with around £48k miles. It seems to be using a lot of oil but garage has said that these cars use a lot. There is now an engine management light on and garage is suggesting we replace the catalytic converter at £1000. There are no obvious oil leeks. Just concerned about spending that amount of money if it is burning oil and we’ll be in a similar position in 6 months time (but £1000 poorer!)

They should scan it for fault codes rather than suggest changing the cat . If you change it , not fixing the burning oil fault will knacker the new cat .

Thanks. They have scanned it for codes and said it was the catalytic converter but couldn’t t guarantee that would fix the problem! Maybe I should try another garage!

There were known problems with that engine which is used in the Peugeots , this explains

Hi Carl.
I have the same spec same year car as your daughter. There must be a manufacturing issue. Basically my car started doing this at 51,000 miles. My cars now on 60,000. I paid absolute fortunes for diagnostics etc etc, rhe oil is just rinsing!! Drastically, and it's causing other parts of the engine to fail. I've also been told my cat is the reason and it would need replacing. I highly doubt the cat is the issue, it's the rinsing of oil thay I have now asked citroen to investigate
Mine is on finance and has completely lost its power. If I was you I'd take it to citroen because this issue is only going to get worse. If you get this message, please reply to me. I have read multiple things online about the exact same thing. It's the engine, it's not our driving. Mines covered 10,000 miles since I purchased it at 49k and irs failed completely now
I've already spent near to 1,000 on it it and refuse to spend anymore. If you have this xar on finance and its in the first 6 months please reject the car.

Hi Amber
Did you manage to locate the problem through Citroen? i'm debating whether to spend yet more money on it having citroen look at it or just get rid of the car.

Hi there. I have a c3 puretech 1.0. 3 months into purchase/ownership. I started having problems with oil just being consumed all the time , never had a car like it ever! Phoned citroen after being to a garage as garage said its the car Common fault same as the new peugots 208 the high revs to small engine = burn oil. Called citroen, they said its not a common fault its a regular maintainence requirement, for every 1000 miles you use
/ replace a 1ltr of oil I am putting in a litre almost monthly these days, not doing 1000 miles. Still have the car now after 3 years, 40000 miles. Am now having engine issues still unresolved, mechanics are stumped. Don't replace the cat unless there is an emissions issues or real fault. I'd call citroen.
