2003 Citroen C3 heat control switch turns round and unable to change from full heat

Recently bought a Citreon C3, but didnt check all the switches. No comments on that please, the heater does work. The heat control switch just turns round, I thought it just need putting back in place but by pressing it hard, I was able to adjust the heating control. Only on the third outing, the cool air suddenly jumped to full on heat and I am unable to adjust it back to cool.
I have read around similar problems with the thermostat shorting but would this affect the switch also?
