Gearbox or cables - Citroen C3

Struggling to get reverse gear over past couple of days. Now second gear has completely gone. First, third and fourth gears are fine.. Took car to two different garages told two different things. Firstly told it was gearbox then I was told it was the cables .... Need advice as what to do...

check the cable mounting bracket on top of gearbox for any cracks /breaks /damage if that is ok i would say cabels a good garage should be able to diagnose problem for you
