Engine stutters sporadically

Hello there!
Driving along as normal, there is a very distinct and severe loss of power. The car stutters badly for 1-2 secs and then resumes as normal. Sometimes it happens again during the trip, other times it can go for days with no re-occurance of the problem.
My garage plugged the car into the computer and couldnt detect a problem as its typical when they drove it-it didnt do it!
Dont know if its an electrical problem- have heard that the wipers are known for not being well connected so run off water can drip onto engine??
