2003 Citroen C2 engine cut-out, engine and exhaust leak

Car: Citroen C2
Year: 2003
Variant: SX 1.1
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Replaced the steering rack three weeks ago and now car has broken down, again. Engine suddenly cut out, didn't hear any bang or backfire, and couldn't re-start. It's definitely not a problem with the electrics/battery as I've already had problems in that area and can tell when trying to start it that it's not a 'power' related problem.
Considerable leaking coming from exhaust at the point when engine cut out as I left quite a trail behind me.
Leaking from engine bay also which smelled strongly of petrol.

I know the exhaust was showing signs of wear and tear and I was going to get it patched when I get paid next week - of course, nothing goes wrong when you happen to be flush!

Any idea what the problem might be?? Getting the impression from other sources that it might by the engine coil?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Could be the exhaust or catalytic convertor collapsed inside and blocked .
