engine warning light and goes into limp mode, fan comes on

First thing to check would be the coolant level and oil level . If o.k need to carry out a diagnostic scan for fault codes to see what has triggered the warning / limp mode .

Thanks for the response it went on the diagnostic machine at citroen which came up with the throttle body was faulty. It went to have this fixed, it was alright on way home however this morning it has done the same thing again.
