Gearbox linkage

i am trying to replace the three linkage rods to the gearbox from the top of the vehicle,the problem is i cant seem to get the linkage rods connected to the ball joint as there is not a lot of room there to apply a lot of pressure there, am i doing it all wrong ? please help me before i lose any more hair!!!!

If you cant push on by hand use a pair of multi grips .

I use mole grips.
I takes a bit of fiddling to get them set to the right size but your not trying to clamp on just close up so it closes the connector.
Or slip jaw pliers work well but more awkward.
And now and then I'll put a cable tie on to kind of hold the joint aligned.
But your right they can be a right pain.
