Speedometer

2000 Alfa Romeo 156 2.5 auto
Car: Alfa Romeo 156
Year: 2000
Variant: 2.5 auto
Categories: Electrics, ECU, Warnings & Lights
the speedometer only indicates half of the actual speed. So when I am driving of about 80 km/hour the dial only shows 40 km/hour.

Tha sounds typical of a flamboyant alfa, trying to make you drive faster! My alfa 33 used to overtake nearly everything on the motorway when the speedo read 60mph.

I think the first thing would be to check the cable, they tend to fray inside the sheath and then not rotate properly. If the speedo needle is sticking and quivering this would point towards you needing a new speedo cable.

Could check your VSS ( vehicle speed sensor ) and wiring .
