When driving forwards after the car shifts into second gear it revs up to about 3200 and the car does not move. When driving slowly forward it also wheelspins even though we have driven up this driveway loads of times with no problems

Sounds like possible clutch pack slip in auto box for whatever reason , be it internal or external faults . Really need scanned with suitable equipment that will cover auto box for fault codes . Whether DSG automatic transmission fluid oil change would help , sometimes does
