Heater

2002 Volkswagen Sharan
Car: Volkswagen Sharan
Year: 2002
Categories: Leaks & Noises
My heater has stopped working. The engine temp is normal and the thermostat has been changed and the control pannel inside the car has been changed. The heater matrix has been flushed through with water. The air vents seem to work ok and the fan works ok in pisition four. If I let the engine warm up then put on fan position 4 it will blow warm for about half a minute then goes cold. The fan is not working in positions 1, 2, and 3.

The fan only working in position 4 is usually the ballast resitor .

Getting no heat sounds like the flap is not operating inside heater box for whatever reason . May be a faulty flap actuator /motor or jammed .

Re. the ballast resistor , this refers to manual air con .If not you may need a blower motor control unit ( Hedgehog ) .You shouild also verify that both heater hoses going to the heater matrix are both hot .

You could substitute your resistor with a headlight bulb to check it ,as that will alter the resistance and alter fan speed ,it,s an old test.I also wonder if you are getting the correct coolant circulation, are the top and bottom radiator hoses both similar temp.If not then it maybe water pump impeller issue as the plastic ones were prone for falling off.
