glow light on dash flashes after 10miles with no change in handleing or loss of power. The garage tells me the fuel addative tank is empty. 1. what is this and what does it do? What is the addative? where is this tank located?

i have a feeling that the garage are trying to make some easy money,a flashing glowplug light on a vw is telling you that 1 or more glow plugs are faulty,replace the glow plugs and the light will go of,mercedes use the same method,hope this helps you.
