2006 Volkswagen Polo power steering warning light

Power steering motor has been replaced but warning light staying on. Have be advised that may be the sensor. Where is this located and is there anything else that would cause the problem.

Has it had the fault code deleted? if not i would try that first

We replaced the motor ourselves and considered buying a fault code reader and reset tool but the company selling it advised that the tool would not help with this as the power steering warning system is separate to the ECU??? Don't know what would be the best thing to do next.
