my polo keeps cutting out as i slow to stop at lights/roundabouts etc,even if i drop the clutch pedal in advance.are there any simple illimination tests i could do to find the cause?

May be the idle control valve / throttle body needing cleaned or replaced . A few other suggestions here on same matter , should help you .
