1998 Volkswagen Polo passenger side door won't open

For the last 10 weeks my door has been shut fast. The lock pops up, the handles inside and out are working, and I've had the door panel off and everything inside the door appears to be in working order, it looks and sounds as if the door should open but it doesn't. How do i get the bloody thing open without trashing my door?! Help!

firstly does the car have central locking?if so is the motor working ok?are all the link rods/cables secure and in position,

Yes, it has central locking. And, I'd have to say everything appears to be connected and secured as it should be. I assume its the central locking unit that has failed, but i don't know how to fix it, or remove it without damaging the door.
